Originally called the Turner Centre, the Turner Contemporary is a Kent County Council project intended to draw visitors to Margate, encourage local interest in art, and assist in the regeneration of Margate Old Town. The gallery will show works by JMW Turner reflecting the famous artist's links with the South Coast town. The project comprises of an art gallery with educational spaces, shop and cafe and due to open in April 2011.
