SX SJB-62 4+1 Fretless (60's Jazz copy)

It's made by SX and the body is a replica of a 1962 Fender Jazz bass. I'd say the similarity ends there because this is a *really* cheap bass and it showed. The flatwound strings that it came with were DEAD when I got it, even for flatwounds, so I had to replace them right away (for reference, I like flatwound strings and have them on three of my four basses, so I have some experience with flats). I took it to a luthier to try to get rid of the string buzz that I couldn't get rid of and he had to level the fingerboard to fix it. Then I had him do a pro set up while he had it. The combined cost of those things ($155) was more than the bass itself ($129) - not a good value. Then to top it off the nut was improperly installed so rather than being perpendicular to the neck it's at an angle. I'm not about to pay to have that fixed so I'm stuck with a bass that I nearly $300 into and it's still not right. Lots of people seem to like their SX's but I think I proved to myself the truth behind the old adage "buy cheap, buy twice".

I got it at Christmas 2007 and, for no real reason, in 3/2009 I replaced the white pickguard with a black one. "Lipstick on a pig", I guess.
