This is the mouth of Bracken Cave; it is home to over 20 million Mexican Free-tailed bats, who cram into the cave at a density of up to 500 per square foot. The bats can eat their weight in insects each night, meaning this colony can eat 200 tons of insects each night - nature's pesticide, as the farmers in the area don't have to spray for insects and instead rely upon the bats.
