Model of 1928A West Hurley and Savage M1 Thompson Submachine Gun
A gallery featuring my prized material possessions: a Model of 1928 Thompson submachine gun manufactured in West Hurley New York, in 1986, and a Savage M1 produced in 1942. The West Hurley represents one of the last transferable Thompson submachine guns ever made. This Tommy Gun is a fully automatic version of one of the most recognizable icons of early 20th century American history. As an example of "The Gun That Made the Twenties Roar", this 'Chicago Typewriter' has been remastered from its original factory configuration by Paul Krogh of Diamond K. With the addition of an original Lyman sight, military wood (save for a Doug Richardson Colt style vertical foregrip), and all original internals, this piano can certainly play a tune! I have also increased its rate of fire to approximately 800 rounds per minute by the addition of a classic Colt '21 actuator and a Diamond K spring and guide rail. Recent additional enhancements (2009) include a ring sight in place of the Cutts compensator, a Gordon Herigstad flat ejector and additional Diamond K modifications. The latter addressed polishing and reblueing of the receiver and rounding the radii of the barrel fins, plus some internal mechanical upgrades. My goal is a weapon that accurately reflects the look and feel of an off-the-shelf 1928A Thompson "chopper", with a bit of speed thrown in!
The M1 is a new acquisition with its own unique history....
