A Winter hike to Zealand involves 18.8 miles, almost 3000 ft. of ascent elevation, and we finished in 10 hours 20 min including breaks. We saw about twenty people, 5 returning from a Bonds attempt (wind was blowing them over at Guyot) and one brave soul and his dog heading to the remote and rugged Bonds. Zealand may be a wooded summit but the view from Zeacliff of Whitewall Mt. and Carrigain Notch is one of my favorites in the White Mountains. Normally a moderate hike, the extra 7.6 miles of road walking makes this very strenuous in the winter. Also did a little bird watching while on this hike, saw a spruce grouse, golden crowned kinglets, boreal chickadees and a red crossbill!
