Fun hike on a day when I was short on time and worried about water crossings. The Gray Jays were abundant (2 very mature birds on Starr King and 3 younger ones on Waumbek). Also saw 2 Black-backed woodpeckers, one on the Starr King trail and one at the lookout on Waumbek. Fresh moose droppings attracted a few white winged crossbills but I didn't get a photo. Snow on the way home made me glad I opted for this shorter hike. Hiking time a little over 4 hrs and I parked in the winter lot so this was almost 8 miles.
