It was in the 90's today, really unusual heat wave, but I decided to hike anyway. Waumbek and Starr King are only about 7 miles with 2700 ft of ascent but it felt tougher since I haven't been hiking that much and the heat didn't help. The black flies were absolutely horrible but once I got near the top the snow and ice kept the bugs down and it felt incredible to be out! Beautiful wildflowers on the Starr King trail and I heard tons of warblers throughout the hike. Great to be back out in the mountains!
