13.2 miles with 3400 ft of ascent elevation on a section of the Appalachian Trail I haven't hiked before. Took us 7 hours to finish. Parked at the Beaver Brook xcountry ski area and took the trails to the bushwhack that goes to the Gale River Road. Gale River trailhead up to Garfield Ridge then the Twinway on hard packed snow. Light snow was falling all day getting heavy just as we returned to the car. Almost saw a Pine Martin or two, saw tracks and we smelled it up near the Galehead hut. The section from the Twinway junction up to South Twin is .8 miles with 1100 ft of ascent elevation....steep!
