We headed to Berlin, NH and traveled down Success Pond Road to the second trailhead to begin our hike in the Mahoosucs (my first time on the Maine AT). Goose Eye and Mt. Carlo loop is a fantastic challenging way to spend the day and the remote location makes it very peaceful. Gorgeous 360 degree views on Goose Eye with some fun rock scrambles and ladders reminiscent of Acadia's steep climbs! Saw a trail worker, a few hikers, 2 AT thru hikers and a lot of evidence of moose! This loop is a about 7.5 miles with 2550 ft of ascent elevation on a well maintained but lightly used trail.
