Southern Presidential hike on a beautiful day! Edmonds Path to the summit of Eisenhower then over to Mount Franklin, Mount Monroe and back. This hike was 10.2 miles with 3700 ft. of ascent elevation and it took me 7.5 hrs. The views were incredible, especially from Mt. Franklin into the Dry River Wilderness. I met some really nice people, took a lot of breaks and enjoyed the perfect weather! Also, I was shocked when I arrived at the summit of Eisenhower to discover the giant cairn was missing. Further research revealed that it is in the process of being rebuilt but the reasons behind it are disturbing -- hikers adding small rocks to it and moving rocks from other cairns and scree walls. Thank you to the trail crews and the volunteers for protecting the environment and keeping the trails in top shape.
