Tamarisk (Tamarix ramosissima)

The tamarisk is often called the salt cedar because of its salty tasting leaves. This water-seeking plant with its extensive root system is common in moist areas or along water courses in the and southwest. It has also been planted as a windbreak in many agricultural areas. This plant has small, scale-like leaves and very tiny pink flowers that are produced in the summer months on a slender stalk about two to three inches in length
