Knobby Seastar (Pilaster giganteus capitatus)

The knobby seastar (Fig. 4-16) found underneath large rocks is much larger than its relative, the ochre seastar. It has large, stumpy, purple spines tinged with white. It can be distinguished from the ochre seastar by the reduced number of spines, the absence of the pentagon of spines in the center of the body, and the reduced size of its spines.

Originally taken with a film camera, these were scanned from my slides and converted. full exif
