Resembles the Lesser Scaup and unless the bird is completely relaxed, the head shape difference between the two are difficult to discern.
The lesser Scaups have a purplish sheen to their heads, the Greater Scaups have a greenish sheen to their head. The Lesser Scaups have taller head the Greater Scaups have a more rounded head shape.
