Beng Mealea 3/3

Getting to Bang Meala, located 80 kilometers north of Angkor, was quite an expedition made possible by our courageous and very friendly «Motor-Cart driver», "Mr. Brown". Two hours of track from which rose the plume of a dense orange-ocher dust (the color of the soil in Cambodia due to laterite) that will sprinkle all our face and hair…
Dotted with anti-personnel mines by the Khmer Rouge, cleared in the early 2000s, Bang Mealea, is totally invaded by the jungle. The central tower collapsed completely. It is a chaos of collapsed columns and scattered lintels entwined by roots and vines. You have to make your way through this maze, following scrupulously a small cleared path to see some beautiful sculptures that have stood the test of time. In 2004, French filmmaker Jean Jacques Annaud shot there the film «Two Brothers».

what an adventure, and clearly a rewarding one...bravo Daniel for the undertaking, and for this image showing the struggle against jungle that the structures endure..
