Vers 1431 sous la pression de l’armée siamoise le roi abandonne Angkor Thom et se réfugie dans le sud du pays. Les siamois pillent la ville, déportent soixante mille familles et demandent à tous les moines de les suivre à Ayuthaya, capitale du royaume siamois.
Angkor Thom tombe alors dans l’oubli et la forêt l’envahît peu à peu.

Around 1431 under pressure from the Siamese army the king abandoned Angkor Thom and took refuge in the south of the country. The Siamese pillaged the city, deported sixty thousand families and asked all the monks to follow them to Ayuthaya, capital of the Siamese kingdom.
Angkor Thom then falls into oblivion and the forest gradually turns it away.
