Pendant la cérémonie, ou à l’issue de celle-ci, certains participants tombent en transes. Les Balinais disent qu’ils sont alors possédés par un esprit divin. C’est le cas de cet homme qui, sur le rivage au crépuscule, se donne des coups de kriss (lame très effilée) dans le corps…Il faut alors l’intervention d’un pemangku (prêtre) pour le calmer et lui faire reprendre les esprits. (Photo de piètre qualité - faible lumière et mouvements saccadés de l’homme) mais qui donne une idée de cet aspect particulier des pratiques rituelles balinaises).

During or at the end of a ceremony, some participants fall into trances. The Balinese say they are then possessed by a divine spirit. This is the case of this man who, on the shore at dusk, kicks himself with a kriss (very sharp blade) in the body… The intervention of a pemangku (priest) is then necessary to calm him and make him recover. (Photo of poor quality - very low light and jerky movements of the man - but which gives an idea of this particular aspect of Balinese ritual practices).
