Bourges est une ville chargée d’histoire située au centre de la France. Son apogée se situe entre 1360 et 1461.
Sous l’impulsion de Jean de Berry (l’un des fils du roi de France Jean le Bon), la ville devient la capitale du duché du Berry et une cour fastueuse s’y établît. Le Duc joue les mécènes et attire dans la ville de nombreux artistes parmi les plus brillants de son temps. De grands chantiers sont entrepris et Bourges se dote de plusieurs palais et chapelles. Aujourd’hui un important quartier historique se déploie sur la butte que couronne la cathédrale.
Bourges is a city steeped in history located in the centre of France. Its peak is between 1360 and 1461.
At the instigation of Jean de Berry (one of the sons of the king of France, Jean le Bon), the city became the capital of the Duchy of Berry and a sumptuous court was established there. The Duke acted as patrons and attracted many of the brightest artists of his time to the city. Major projects were undertaken and Bourges acquired several palaces and chapels. Today an important historic district is located on the hill crowned by the cathedral.
