Le palais des démons.

Rumtek - East Sikkim.

The palace of demons.

This monk from the monastery of Rumtek makes this structure of coloured thread called «Palace of Demons». It is a kind of offering to the evil spirits that can also be considered as a “trap”. Tibetan Buddhists believe that evil spirits will take refuge in this «palace» instead of investing a human body or an animal thus preserving them from disease and death.
These popular beliefs are closer to superstition than the original message of Gautama Buddha.

what a visual treat...not surprising that the old superstitions persist, as they do in so many countries, even here in the west..

Great perspective and detail in this colroful image. Fascinating to see this and thank you for adding the description. Interesting that Tibetan Buddhism has absorbed do many aspects that really have little or nothing to do with Buddhism at all. "V"
