You have created beauty out of tragedy. I have always wanted to see it and now, of course, I never will. ~BV~

Une scène désastreuse et triste de voir cette magnifique architecture en flammes!
Tom LeRoy17-Apr-2019 10:27
I watched the fire on TV in shock and disbelief. Thanks to the brave firefighters no lives are lost and Notre Dame is still standing and can be restored.
Gill Kopy17-Apr-2019 02:53
My heart goes out to France over this - one wonders how it could be restored. An amazing capture of the inferno !! V

So sad to see an icon of civilization in flames.

A great shame and brings back memories of the York Minster great fire, glad to hear more positive news today about the restoration plans within 5 years which means the structure is sound. York Minster is as good today as it ever was so please take heart from that.

Quel drame, on aurait jamais penser voir une pareille catastrophe. C’ est bien triste.
Charlene Ambrose16-Apr-2019 19:45
My heart aches to see this horrific scene. It is so sad. It's been all over the news here. We are seeing these images as well. Glad to hear it will be restored. Just hope it doesn't take years.

Amazing but shattering shot! How sad this fire is and has caused such destruction, both physically and emotionally. My heart goes out to all Parisians. But what a spectacular image!!
janescottcumming16-Apr-2019 17:06
So sad as we watched here in the States. So glad people are coming forward to help with the funds to rebuild.

Tristesse et consternation de voir la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris ravagée par les flammes!
heureusement, la structure principale de Notre-Dame a été sauvegardée et préservée.
globalgadabout16-Apr-2019 14:46
what a heart-rending catastrophe for the people of France, and for many around the world as well...a big piece of your heritage has been badly damaged, and it is also a major symbol with such cultural resonance, and the architectural gem of Paris...condolences in particular to you Daniel, and to the other French pals, Marie-Jose and Blandine..
Walter Otto Koenig16-Apr-2019 13:52
What a horrible tragedy. Thankfully there is news that the cathedral is structurally sound and several billionaires have come forward pledging large amounts of money for the restoration. Hopefully this beautiful symbol of Paris can shine once again.

A tragedy indeed.

Oh, we two here so far away are also so sad. A tragic loss for Paris and the world but no lives. What a horrific & historic moment captured by you from the TV. Some interesting comments - I like that from Neil.
sand_shadow16-Apr-2019 10:50
This is so universally painful, but a well crafted image

A well documented image of the fire on your tv screen, Daniel. Thankfully they managed to save so much in the circumstances...
Neil Marcus16-Apr-2019 09:51
A tragedy. Not all is lost. The treasures are safe. French billionaires vow to restore it.
carabias16-Apr-2019 09:38
Notre Dame has been lost, they have burnt it, taking advantage of its restoration. We will never know the truth.
Wintermeer16-Apr-2019 08:50
What a pity, such a loss, this is one of those moments where I wished it was CGI. The colours look eerily pretty. I hope every effort possible is put into restoration!
chris morton16-Apr-2019 08:45
it is not clear from images in the news whether the vaulting and west towers have been affected - if not, as at York Minster and new modern timber engineered over-roof is possible
Juliette16-Apr-2019 08:38
too bad.. so much beauty and history lost
