The Dark Side of France.

I do not post this photo for its technical qualities - it is a simple screen shot - but for its symbolic value. This sculpture was destroyed by rioting demonstrators inside the Arc de Triomphe of Paris Saturday, December 1st, 2018. They plundered all the inside of the monument. Good thing it is a simple copy in plaster of a fragment of the outside frescoes.
Anyway! Is it not the nature of the barbarians to destroy?…

Copy or not it was the intention that matters

A powerful image conveying what is happening there, more so than the news broadcasts we see.
Stay safe Daniel!

Oh this is dreadful. Yes, you are quite right in your comment about barbarians destroying. The way of the world is dark these days. A powerful symbol of what is happening around the globe. V

This photo has so much to say...things are not going well in so many countries. You would think we would have learned lessons from history but I fear we are heading down a path where history will repeat itself. Stay safe Daniel. A very powerful image. V

A most symbolic image for this time. Things are not going well many places right now and I agree the message conveyed by your image outweighs all else. Still a nicely captured image! VV

So much for the stupid People...! V

So sad to see it... V

Don Mottershead09-Dec-2018 21:55
Sigh. There are lots of good reasons for protest in this world, but what is this kind of destruction supposed to accomplish?

Outrages and senseless acts of vandalism do not advance anybody's cause. V

it is a disgrace what happens the last time, by no way approve, where is this going to end I hope very soon for the people Paris.good work that you once bring the interest how futile all this is.
Walter Otto Koenig09-Dec-2018 19:31
Strong documentary image. It is fortunate this was a copy. Still this is senseless vandalism and should be dealt with as if this was the original sculpture.
Charlene Ambrose09-Dec-2018 17:05
Very symbolic and it is so senseless to destroy property like this.
Blandine Mangin09-Dec-2018 16:45

I can appreciate your outrage against senseless vandalism. Our senseless president applauds these yellow jackets(word?)
globalgadabout09-Dec-2018 15:43
there is anger here shown in several aspects of a powerful image...this distils the despair, and blind fury, of the times so effectively..
Tom Munson09-Dec-2018 15:35

People can be idiots at times with their destruction of historic statues. Luckily it was a copy and not the real thing, Daniel.
Frank Tran09-Dec-2018 12:46
So sad! Well documented. V+

I feel with the yellows but hate those People that only choose for violette.

Wintermeer09-Dec-2018 11:52
I have been following the news closely- and I have to wonder whether these protests are still about the issue of taxation or are they just people who lust for violence? It brings back very bad memories of the G-20 summit here in Hamburg
joseantonio09-Dec-2018 11:48
Very nice documentary report. It´s so sad to see this.V
Martin Lamoon09-Dec-2018 11:27
Thats so bad. They probably did not know it was a copy, they should be dealt with without mercy.

Its an excellent capture.
