The construction of the half-timbered houses of Quimper dated from the medieval times. They belonged to the bourgeoisie, often to storekeepers who exercised then their activity at the ground floor. Fragile, because built in wood, they were often ravaged by fires as the one which, in 1762, rages in the main street of Quimper, the Kéréon street which lasted 12 days. Fortunately 73 of these houses remain nowadays and give to the town center its character so particular.
