Sitting Buddha.

Paya Mahamuni. Mandalay.

The 4 meters high seated Buddha, which stand at the heart of the complex of Mahamuni Pagoda, is one of the most famous of Burma. The pagoda is a very busy place of pilgrimage and thousands of sanctimonious persons completely covered the body of the buddha of a layer of gold leaves reaching from now on more than 15 centimeters in thickness. This confers it a swollen aspect which contrasts with the perfectly smooth face. Only men are allowed to affix the gold leaves.

An important image showing insight to their religion. Men dominate. A pity.
