Sunset Light on Khajuraho Temples.

The Khajuraho temples were built by the Chandela Dynasty between 950 and 1050 a.c. They were abandoned at the end of the XI century after the Chandela moved their capital to Mahoba. The jungle gradually covered the temples and their beautiful sculptures inspired by the Kama Sutra. Their remoteness and the vegetation contributed to preserve them from the iconoclasm of Muslims.
The Khajuraho temples were rediscovered in 1838 by a British officer, TS Burt. Of the 85 temples built in the beginning, there remain only 25. The beauty of their sculptures make these temples worthy of listing by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.

Gorgeous light and colours, and great you were able to hide the manicured gardens all around which, yes!, do harm to this extraordinary site! V

The temples (and your photograph) are absolutely fantastic! It's just a pity the horrible reconstruction and the 'gardens' done by the Indian Government! They just managed to destroy the ambience of such a magnificent place!
