Holy Land, Tuesday, April 15

We began in the Basilica of the Nativity, with Mass, proceeded to the Milk Grotto, also in Bethlehem. We then drove to En Karem, where Elizabeth and Zechariah lived, and where the Visitation occurred when Mary was sent to her kinswoman Elizabeth immediately after the Annunciation. Downhill from the place of the Visitation, we stopped at the birthplace of John the Baptist, the "Precursor of the Lord."
Manger Square, Bethlehem.  Preparations are being made for Pope Francis' visit in May. In the Basilica of the Nativity:  Fr. David telling us about St Jerome's Chapel. On the street in Bethlehem.  I thought that these women look so well dressed. Local workman making beads for wooden rosaries in Bethlehem Workshop for making statues- the workshops are open to the street. The Milk Grotto. It is said that the Holy Family took refuge here during the Slaughter of the Innocents before flight into Egypt
