In some genealogical records, Rorbach and Steinweiler are combined into Rorbach-Steinweiler. The town website says only that the place name has changed many times and developed only gradually to the present name. In 968 it was designated in the deed as "Steinwilare" (they don't say when it began or what it was called before that). In 1585 the name appeared asl "Steinweiler," which it is today. It was an ag town but it is now mostly residential with most of its inhabitants working abroad.
