Our trip to Colorado in Jyly took us on a tour north of Denver to the Rocky Mountain National Park, then south to Granby and Leadville. We then went to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River NP, a smaller version of the Grand Canyon, then on to Ouray, Silverton, Durango and Cortez in the southwest. Next we spent a full day touring and photographing the Mesa Verde NP cliff dwellings of 1000 years ago. The Great Sand Dunes NP was a bit disappointing since we could not get close enough to get sand in our shoes (a half mile walk across a sandy plain was too strenuous for the old folk, me). Next day we visited the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak, 14,110 ft high - a REAL Rocky Mountain HIGH! Beautiful and breathtaking - you try breathing at 14,110 ft. Then on to the Air Force Academy for a quick tour and a visit to the the AFA Cadet chapel - second place (cellar) for Catholics, Jews and Buddhists! Home again, home again . . . . . .
