On the Holland America Cruise two days are spent visiting glaciers which come down to the ocean. The rain followed us to Glacier bay and the wind picked up to about 50mph or force 9. Glacier bay had low clouds and fog where it could hang in the valleys. Shooting conditions were difficult but we managed some useable shots anyway. The place is pristine, stunning in its emptyness and somewhat forbidding, well worth a trip to see it. Photo DSC0739 is the last Glacier Bay shot
About one day of sailing from Glacier bay is this almost magical place, College Fjord, calm as opposed to the wind we found in Glacier Bay and still very cloudy. Still the multiple glaciers, all named after colleges, and the fjord they are in are an altogether fascinating place. There is a primitive, pristine stillness broken only by the creaking, cracking noise made by the glaciers. One of those must see places. Photos have been reworked and made larger in August 2013.
