These are images captured with the wonderful help of our guide, Rick with the Silver Salmon Creek Lodge in the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. I cannot recommend this lodge highly enough for viewing and photographing the coastal brown bears that inhabit the area of the preserve along the Cook Inlet.
Coastal Brown Bears are larger than the inland Grizzly Bears, and can weigh up to 1500 lbs.!
With the help of our guide Rick, we were able to get within 25 feet of one female bear and her two playful cubs -- fortunately, momma was much more interested in eating freshly dug clams than us!
