I can't believe I finally found out what type of bird this is. I have never heard of a Loggerhead Shrike before but I have these birds in my back yard. I currently have a nest in a tree just outside my livingroom window. I sit under the tree in my wicker rocker in the late afternoon - The birds are very used to my presence and it appears both male and female are tending to the young. They follow me around when I cut my yard and/or horse pasture to catch the grasshoppers and other insects I stir up while cutting. They even dive to the ground quite close to the lawn tractor when necessary. They nab the bug, look at me (as if to say thanks) then fly off to the nest. There are 5 babies in that nest and by now they are almost full size birds. I see them testing their wings so I guess it is almost time for them to start leaving. They keep mom and dad extremely busy with their demands for food. So cute, they remind me of a cross between a sparrow and a mockingbird. So glad to finally know what they are. Thanks for your magnificent photos!!
