Seeing this White-eared Hummingbird in SE Arizona earlier this month immediately brought back memories of seeing my first ones on a trip to Mexico many years ago. We had been driving all day and spotted a huge patch of orange flowers that I am told were called “red hot pokers.” Buzzing all around the flowers were White-eared Hummingbirds in all different plumages causing our drive to be delayed while I photographed them. It’s amazing how seeing a bird like this one can instantly bring back such vivid memories.
