This ended up being a time when patience paid off. During a recent visit to High Island I noticed this Roseate Spoonbill sitting on a high perch above the rookery. Based on my observations of other birds in the rookery I thought this spoonbill probably wouldn’t stay on its perch for very long. The bird almost got the last laugh; it sat in its chosen spot for what seemed like an eternity. Just before my arms gave out, I saw the bird squat and started clicking away. I thought it was going to poop, which is usually a sign of an imminent lift-off but instead it was starting to spring forward. It’s a good thing I didn’t wait for the poop to finish before I started taking photos!
