Purple Gallinules are such beautiful and strange birds; how can you not be dazzled by those bright colors!? This one got my heart racing during a recent visit to High Island when it flew across the pond almost directly at me. I tried to get on the bird quickly enough to catch a shot and I thought I had totally missed until I got home and reviewed my photos. Usually my experience is the opposite, I think I have the shot in the bag and when I review the images, I find it isn’t quite as nice as I thought. This time I was sure I had totally missed the shot and I ended up with this.
