Yesterday morning the forecast was for sunshine so I decided to get an early start. My first stop was Surfside and I arrived just after sunrise. As luck would have it, I immediately heard this Clapper Rail just ticking away and eventually I spotted him walking through the vegetation right in my direction. I wasn’t expecting to see a bird so quickly so I didn’t have my camera ready. By the time I got done scrambling around for my camera the rail was all the way out in the open. It’s a miracle I didn’t drop my camera in the excitement and it is no surprise that the first ten or fifteen photos were all blurry from camera-shake. Here is the proof that I eventually calmed down enough for a photo!
