Like most birds, the Black-throated Blue Warbler females aren’t as brightly colored as the males, but I do think the female is still quite pretty. I find the paler blue-green to be quite pleasing so I was pretty motivated to spend a little time photographing this one during our trip to Cuba last month. She wasn’t making photography easy, hanging out mostly in the thick undergrowth but, luckily for me this one has a sweet tooth. She eventually came out to the edge of the tangle to dart over for a sip of sugar water from a hummingbird feeder! I guess when you are preparing for a long migration you better get any energy you can find; then again sugar water is pretty yummy!
