Bewick's Wren

Texas

When I visit south Texas for birding, I usually encounter a bunch of Bewick’s Wrens but usually don’t end up with many photos of them. They seem to be fairly common in the area and it also feels like they take great joy in avoiding being photographed. I know that they aren’t really playing games with me but wow they can be frustrating when it comes to photography.

This photo was the result of at least an hour of effort. The wren kept darting out to beautifully well exposed perches and then back into the grass and brush before I could lock focus. Every time I got distracted with something else it would appear in a perfect location again only to disappear before a photo could be taken. It went on and on and on. Eventually I was able to grab this shot, the perch wasn’t as good as many that I had seen it go to but I was so happy to actually get a shot off that it just didn’t matter.
