Whenever I visit the Lower Rio Grande Valley, one of the birds I really look forward to experiencing is the Great Kiskadee. Today while out birding a friend said that the Great Kiskadee was just a Social Flycatcher with a Texas accent and another friend replied that a better description would be an Antisocial Flycatcher. I definitely got a chuckle from that but I can see where he was coming from with his comment. These birds are loud and they do use their large size to dominate whatever area they are in. Not everyone loves their colors and markings as much as I do but you have to admit this is a pretty striking bird. I think this is the one bird that made the biggest impression on me the first time I visited south Texas.
