City parks can be a great place to see birds, especially busy ones like Hermann Park in Houston. Over the years I have found that birds that are usually very difficult to approach in more “wild” environments can be fairly accommodating in places where there are constantly people around. This certainly was the case with this Ring-necked Duck which was quite comfortable to swim right up to me. I think he might have expected that I had bread to feed him. It was pretty neat to be this close.
