Long-billed Curlew

Texas

Sometimes everything just seems to come together. In this case I guess not everything but I have to say I had a big smile when I was reviewing my photos from a recent visit to Bolivar Flats and this one popped up.

It’s a bit tough to tell from the photo but there was actually a good bit of cloud cover when this photo was taken and the sun was pretty low on the horizon. I had been watching the Long-billed Curlew for quite a while and overall, I liked the soft light but for a very brief time the sun broke through a little hole in the clouds and I got all this beautiful warm light that absolutely made the grass in the background glow. If that wasn’t enough, right as the sun was doing its thing another curlew flew in and got my subject all excited. I wasn’t sure if I had gotten the shot until I got home. It would have been neat to have gotten the other curlew in the photo but I think I can be pretty satisfied with this one.
