Willet

Texas

I’ve been enjoying the Quintana jetty for years and have so many fold memories of taking photos there so yesterday when we discovered that there was a big running event going on at Brazos Bend State Park, I suggested giving the good ‘ole jetty a try. My friends didn’t look overly excited about the suggestion but they humored me.

It started out a little slow with lots of human activity and only a handful of birds; and the birds that were around seemed extra nervous. We tried getting on some turnstones and the one egret we encountered and they were having nothing to do with us.

By the time we reached the end of the jetty things were looking grim and my mind was rapidly thinking of how to save the afternoon. Not long after we headed back toward the car, we spotted this Willet scampering around on the rocks and we went for it. To my delight the bird completely ignored us and we got some quality time of a Willet being a Willet.

My favorite shots from the encounter were the ones where the waves were washing over the rock the bird was standing on, I just love those bubbles.
