Talk about a challenging exposure, this male Bufflehead has some serious contrast which poses a decent enough challenge in overcast conditions but really can drive you crazy on a sunny day.

I started out early yesterday at Lafitte’s Cove waiting for this little beauty and his mate to come close enough for a good photo. I figured that if I was still and quiet the birds would eventually ignore me and give me the shot I was after.

It turns out that my bladder was the limiting factor in this equation and after a few hours of waiting I decided this shot would have to be good enough for now. If only he wasn’t so pretty, I wouldn’t be compelled to give him so much attention.
