Wilson's Warbler

Texas

Yesterday morning I made a brief visit to Cullinan Park in Sugar Land. My first stop was the boardwalk and though it was a beautiful morning it was a bit windy and I didn’t see many subjects in “photo range” as I walked around.

I decided to give the woods a try and it wasn’t long before I was pleased with the decision. Almost immediately after entering the woods I heard the sounds of songbirds all around me. I didn’t hear any unexpected species but there were lots of the usual suspects. Birds like Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers, White-throated Sparrows and American Goldfinches where plentiful and I started watching for opportunities to photograph them as they flitted around the dense understory.

While trying to photograph a Carolina Wren I caught a glimpse of this beautiful Wilson’s Warbler and my goal was set. I watched and waited as this little yellow guy bounced all over the place along the trail. Every once in a while, he would pop out in a perfect spot for a photo but almost as if he was taunting me he would disappear back into the thicket before I could him in focus. We played this game for about half an hour and though he succeeded in eluding me most of the time I did manage a few photos. This one was one of my favorites. I thought it was a nice start to December.

Yes beautiful indeed.
At the right time at the right moment to get its photo taken.
Patience paid off.
