I always thought kingfishers were strongly associated with water but this Gray-headed Kingfisher opened my eyes to the idea that not all kingfishers hang out around the water. This particular individual was the first one that we actually managed to get close to and it was in a pretty arid aria with no water in sight. I am told that this is typical behavior for this species and also that it often eats lizards.
