Our White Ibises here in Texas seem to not get a whole lot of enthusiasm among the local birders. They are pretty common and aren’t dramatically colored like the Roseate Spoonbills but I always found them to be really neat with that long, curved beak and those crazy blue eyes. I’m just not used to ibises generating much excitement; so, I was pretty interested when I learned about the Sacred Ibis. Sounds like that bird must have had some respect from someone (the Egyptians) to be named a name like that. During our visit to Ethiopia I was happy to spend some time appreciating this bizarre African Sacred Ibis. It may be “just and ibis” but it’s pretty neat to me.
