While out enjoying a beautiful cool morning at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge today, I noticed a group of Willets foraging in the shallow water on the way to Rodgers Pond so I set up in hopes they would do something interesting. After a short wait this Northern Harrier suddenly swooped in and dove down at a young Great Blue Heron. Luckily there was plenty of light so when the harrier circled around for another go at the heron I had plenty of shutter speed to catch a couple of crisp shots. As is all too often the case, the harrier disappeared off into the distance moments after this photo was taken and I didn’t see another one for the remainder of my visit. I sure am glad I was able to make the opportunity count.
