One of our goals for our visit to Cano Negro (in northern Costa Rica) was to get quality photos of Northern Jacana and as luck would have it there was an adult with young just a few yards from the dock of our lodge. Needless to say, we clicked the cameras quite a few times at these little treasures and if I have learned anything from doing photography over the past 20 years it is that the more my camera clicks the better my luck gets. Hopefully that gives you some idea about how many clicks it took to catch the adult with its wings up showing off the wing spurs and that wicked long toenail all in the exact same focal plane as the chick. If only I could anticipate the “decisive moment” I wouldn’t burn through so many cameras.
