Over the years of doing birding trips I have noticed a trend where common birds have a tendency of being overlooked in favor of spending time photographing rarer birds. By the time we get to the last day of the trip the realization that we have totally neglected a bird that we have seen almost every day becomes painfully obvious. On our trip to Ethiopia this almost happened with the beautiful Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu, a bird we certainly wanted good photos of. How annoying it would have been to have seen so many of these colorful birds and come home with nothing to show of them.
