During the summer we get to see a fair number of Magnificent Frigatebirds on the Texas Gulf Coast but they are just so interesting looking we couldn’t help but to spend a little time photographing them soaring over the Pacific Ocean yesterday morning down in Costa Rica. This male gave us a nice close flyby prompting questions about the red gular sac and the likelihood that we might see it inflated. Unfortunately, the only times I have seen it was once during a visit to Dry Tortugas National Park and during a visit to the Galapagos Islands. We had to make do with the deflated red balloon. Still pretty exciting.
