Fall songbird migration is showing signs of picking up with warblers, vireos, flycatchers and gnatcatchers popping up all over the place. With this in mind I popped into the Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary during a recent visit to the coast. The birds weren’t immediately obvious but after spending some time looking and listening, I observed several Empidonax flycatchers, Red-eyed Vireo, Prothonotary Warbler, Northern Parula and this beautiful Hooded Warbler. If I had to choose a bird that represented spring migration of 2019 it has to be the Hooded Warbler, this was my best season ever for them so it seems appropriate that my first photographed warbler of fall 2019 was a beautiful male.
