I really enjoy it when I have the opportunity to show “new birders” some wow birds that might help to increase their interest/excitement about birds. On Wednesday I went out with some friends to Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary and out first bird was one that I definitely consider a wow bird; the Long-billed Curlew. This beautiful individual gave us an opportunity to put our photography skills to practice. There is just something about that amazingly long beak and those beautifully patterned feathers that inspired me when I was getting started and it still brings a smile to my face today.
