There are few things more comical, to me anyway, than the fumbling about that happens when a great photo opportunity presents itself when I am totally unprepared for it. This little Cactus Wren got us scurrying as we were loading our car. The sun was barely clearing the horizon when I heard the familiar raspy call right above my head. I looked up and the warm light was creating what I knew would be a fabulous image but none of my gear was set up for the shot. After frantically digging through my bag for a fresh memory card and battery I went to take a shot only to notice that my 1.4x TC was mounted on the lens. After a few more seconds of juggling gear to remove it and nearly dumping the whole rig on the ground I finally clicked off a few shots just before the moment was over. Good thing this bird has a long song!
